5 Reasons Your Cashiers Will Love
Meals Plus Point of Sale

When Jerry Long, Food Service Director of Bell Shoals Baptist Academy (FL), chose Meals Plus Point of Sale for his school cafeteria, he quickly saw its many benefits for the school’s cashiers. Here are just a few:

  • The layout of the menu makes it easy to use, and even though many cashiers can be resistant to change, most like being able to customize their menu items.
  • Cashiers love that as students enter their numbers, students (with their pictures!) are added to the “queue.” According to Jerry, being able to pick who they will serve next is a “big plus” for his cashiers.
  • A History button is available right on the point of sale screen, and has solved many issues the school’s cashiers previously had. Cashiers can see what the students have previously purchased in the lunchroom, which is helpful when visiting parents ask for this information.
  • If cashiers had questions, they were quickly answered by the helpful and friendly Meals Plus Technical Support Team.
  • And switching to Meals Plus Point of Sale was easy! According to Jerry, the “setup and implementation was so easy. Even implementing during the school year, it was a smooth transition.”

Meet the Team: Liz

Get to know the Meals Plus Team! Liz is the Marketing Manager for Meals Plus. She is pictured below (right) with Meals Plus' Marketing Assistant, Leah, at the 2015 South Carolina SNA Conference.

The Dish: How long have you been with Meals Plus?
Liz: I joined the Meals Plus Team in August of 2011. I can’t believe it’s been almost five years – time flies when you’re having fun!

TD: What do you like most about working at Meals Plus?
L: The Meals Plus Marketing Department has a unique opportunity to be a resource for not just Meals Plus customers, but child nutrition professionals across the country. I enjoy creating free resources (such as our white papers and blog posts with promotional ideas) that every K-12 child nutrition department can use. And I love shining a light on our Meals Plus Customers, because they are doing really phenomenal things in their cafeterias that could be beneficial to other school districts. A recent example is how Lexington School District One (SC) increased lunch participation with Rice Krispies Treat® Days. It’s fun sharing success stories like that with the child nutrition industry! (Would you like to share your success story? Email Liz to be featured in the Meals Plus blog and e-newsletter.)

D: What duties does your position entail?
L: I "wear many hats" as the Marketing Manager, with tasks including: managing our website's content and blog, print advertisements, direct mail campaigns email marketing, and social media accounts. (Follow Meals Plus on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and Google+!) I also create videos, oversee our trade show calendar, manage the budget, and stay on top of child nutrition industry trends so that I can determine how Meals Plus can be a resource for school districts.

TD: What do you like doing in your free time?
L: I love road trips, live music, and baseball! My husband and I visit at least one Major League Baseball park a year, and have been to 19 parks so far. I also mentor students through my alma mater, UNC-Wilmington's Cameron School of Business' Cameron Executive Network.

TD: What was your favorite meal when you were in school?
L: I know most will say the square pizza, but I loved the chicken fillet sandwich! It was worth standing in that long line for.
