Account Categories are used to group inventory items for accounting purposes.
They are used in Inventory Accounts to link groups of inventory items to specific account codes when updating the general ledger.

About Inventory Groups and Categories.

To add a new Account Category, enter a Reference ID (short description) and Description and then click Save.
The Reference ID cannot be edited after saving but the Description can be changed.
An Account Category can be deleted if there are no inventory items assigned to it in Item Maintenance.
